R-evolve at Berwickshire High School

Live Learn Earn CIC, in collaboration with Berwickshire High School and local businesses, sought funding to support the delivery of 30 R-evolve workshop sessions over an 11-month period (August 2025 – June 2026). This initiative continued to engage local young people in practical, community-centred employability and design projects that promoted employability, skills development, and local engagement.

The programme further empowered participants to design and construct public installations, including sculptures and commemorative pieces, created to enhance shared community spaces and generate community ties through the process of their fabrication. The items represented, and were inspired by, the community life and history of the locations in which they are located

Young people involved in the project developed the skills required to successfully apply for modern apprenticeships at businesses like Thorburn Group in Duns and local agricultural engineers McGregor Farms as has happened previously as a direct result of the projects content. The project also enables insight visits to other local businesses and engineering firms, developing work placements that  lead to future careers.

The grant enabled the project to cultivate employability, generate confidence and self-esteem through engaging over 40 learners throughout the year and also creating valuable mentoring opportunities for previous attenders to help their younger peers. This has developed hugely positive behaviours and created an ethos that embraces the values of all the partners represented in the projects delivery.
