Re-Tweed

Project Overview:
As part of our trade-up activities, ReTweed expanded into International Tartans, offering advanced training courses in tailoring and Tartan skills. These courses aim to provide pathways to employment and entrepreneurship for our graduates.

Training Outcomes:
During this period, we successfully delivered an 8-week advanced textiles course to six women. Both of our trainers were involved in this course completing a 4-week block each.  They focused on a variety of skills including handmade neckties, bow ties, Tartan scarves, and industrial techniques such as overlocking and sewing.

Impact and Achievements:

  • Graduate Progress:
    • 3 participants became makers for International Tartans.
    • 2 participants launched their own businesses, specializing in handmade handbags and home-schooling sessions.
    • 1 participant chose to remain in the workforce, changing her employment to better balance finances and personal time.
  • Website Development:
We started to develop our website, which clearly demonstrates the distinction between ReTweed and International Tartans, targeting their respective markets. The website and marketing materials are designed to be professional, aligning with other competitors in the Tartan marketplace.
  • Employment and Organisational Development:
One of our advanced course graduates was recruited as an Operational Support Officer. In this role, she worked closely with makers, management, and external organisations to secure premises, training, and equipment. She has also played a key role in documenting and organising the Tartan products and fabrics entrusted to ReTweed.

Conclusion:
This period has demonstrated significant progress in skills development, entrepreneurship, and organisational capacity. The training has empowered participants to pursue employment or business opportunities within the Tartan industry, contributing to our broader mission of social and economic development
